Mississippi's service is called MS SAVIN/VINE. The MDOC notification program receives events from MDOC and participating county facilities. The official overview does not promise that every county jail participates. Before relying on a Humphreys County search, choose Mississippi in VINELink and confirm that the live agency selector names the relevant facility or reporting agency.
VINELink serves two related tasks. It can show the custody information supplied for one offender record, and it can accept an anonymous registration for later notification. Events may include release, transfer, unit reassignment, temporary movement, return to custody, escape, or absconding from supervision. That broad list is useful, but it also demands care. A change is not always community release.
County and state custody are different. The Humphreys County Sheriff's Office is the source for a local booking or final movement record. MDOC is the source for a state prisoner, including someone at the Holmes/Humphreys County Correctional Facility in Lexington. VINELink may relay an event from either participating source, yet the agency record remains the proof.

VINELink displays fields supplied by the reporting agency, so the exact record can vary. It generally presents enough information to identify the person, locate the source agency, read the current custody status, and understand a recent event. It is not a historical county release archive. Nor does it guarantee the same data for a sheriff booking and an MDOC offender.

A release or noncustody result ends only the custody reported by that agency. A county release could be a handoff to MDOC. A state-prison departure could be parole, earned-release supervision, discharge, or another transfer. If MDOC is involved, compare Location and Location Change Date and seek a discharge certificate or Records confirmation. Its Tentative Release Date is a prediction, not an actual release timestamp.

Registration is free and anonymous through MS SAVIN/VINE. Start from the correct person record so the alert follows the intended identity and reporting source. The live interface may offer phone, text, email, or a subset of those channels. Complete each verification prompt. A telephone workflow may ask for a four-digit PIN to acknowledge an automated call, but the research did not establish that every text or email registration always uses a PIN.
- Open the matched record and choose “Get notified” or its current equivalent.
- Select one or more offered notification channels.
- Enter the required contact details and complete the confirmation prompts.
- Create a four-digit PIN only if the current telephone workflow asks for one.
- Save the registration confirmation and keep the contact details current.
- When an alert arrives, read the full event label and call the reporting agency to confirm it.

Confirm Humphreys VINELink Releases
Start with the name of the reporting agency. For a Humphreys County jail event, call the sheriff and ask for the final release or movement entry. Pair it with the Circuit, Justice, or municipal docket that controlled the case. A court order gives legal authority, while the sheriff timestamp can establish when physical custody ended. One should not be silently substituted for the other.
For an MDOC event, use the offender search to compare identity, Location, Unit, Location Change Date, Entry Date, and sentence context. The public interface is strongest for current state custody. It is not documented as a complete archive of every discharged person. Contact MDOC Records for the public time or discharge record, and contact Community Corrections when active parole or earned-release supervision may explain a community status.
For a sentenced federal prisoner, use the BOP inmate locator. Federal pretrial custody calls for the federal docket and relevant U.S. Marshals district or facility. ICE's locator covers a separate immigration path and has limited recent-release coverage. A result from one system cannot answer whether another authority holds the person.
A no-result screen also needs restraint. It can reflect a spelling difference, a source that does not participate, a recent update that has not arrived, or a custody system outside VINE. It does not prove that the person was released. Return to the most likely custodian based on the case: the Humphreys sheriff for a Belzoni booking, MDOC for a state sentence, or the proper federal branch. Ask for a narrow status, movement, or release record that identifies the last known agency action. For a court-authorized local release, obtain both the order and the sheriff implementation time.
Humphreys Alerts Follow State Transfers
Mississippi's VINE Registration Link can carry a notification registration forward when a person moves from a county booking into MDOC or other custody after a felony conviction. That continuity addresses a major Humphreys County risk: disappearance from the local system may look like release even when the person was transferred to state custody.
Read the first event and every later event as separate agency reports. A county movement entry may identify MDOC as the receiving agency. A later VINE record may name an MDOC institution or another state location. Neither fact alone proves final discharge. Track the reporting agency, status, and time for each event, then compare them with the sheriff movement record and current MDOC Location.
The Holmes/Humphreys County Correctional Facility adds a local naming trap. It is a regional facility in Lexington, Holmes County, operated by the Holmes County Sheriff's Department under MDOC oversight. It is not the Humphreys County Jail in Belzoni. A state inmate there belongs on the MDOC verification path, even though the facility name includes Humphreys.
Note: Registration continuity prevents a lost alert, but the next event still needs confirmation from the agency that supplied it.
Read Humphreys Custody Events Carefully
VINE event terms describe a change in a reporting system, not a broad legal conclusion. Release means that agency recorded a release event. Transfer means custody passed or movement occurred. Temporary movement or unit reassignment can change location without ending custody. Return means custody resumed. Escape and absconding are also distinct: escape concerns physical custody, while absconding describes failure to remain in required supervision contact.
